Motor shaft instrumentation for torque measurement

A machine manufacturer wants to measure the torque that supports one of its motor shafts.

The most cost-effective solution is to instrument the concerned shaft using strain gauges.

To do this, the following operations are required:

  • Receipt of drawing of the shaft to be instrumented.

  • Manufacturing of two protective half-shells.
  • Reception of the shaft to be instrumented.
  • Surface preparation in the area where the gauges will be glued.
  • Bonding, wiring and closing.
  • Theoretical calculation of the output signal based on the diameter of the shaft, its material and the K-factor of the glued gauges.
  • Supply of a calibration resistor to facilitate calibration of the indicator.
